Naturpark Geras
One of the first natural parks in Lower Austria was founded in the year 1968,
on approximately 140 hectares, among the chain of ponds encircling the Geras
Premonstratensian monastery. The monastery itself is from the year 1153.
Wild animals in their natural surroundings can be found in the beautiful game preserve. Here you can see European bison, wild horses and ibex as well as fallow deer, stags and mouflon. The roster is concluded with various kinds of goats and sheep. Above all, a distinct history of development can be seen on various strains of pigs.
Children will like the appealing facilities: playground, petting zoo, xylophone and scenic view mountain. At the entrance gate are souvenirs and here one can have a meal in a peasant atmosphere at a reasonable price.
There is an herbal garden
in front of the monastery building, founded according to an ideal design from
the year 800. You can connect its visit with the tour of the monastery.
